Personality:
Eri is, generally, a jerk. Smartmouthed, manipulative, cynical, he really isn’t interested in making friends. He can act nice if he feels like it, but that’s all there is to that, an act. After years of being on his own and the way he lost everyone he knew, he stopped caring about and trusting people. He can be very competitive and hot-tempered if he feels challenged, and he hates to lose; Eri seems to be obsessed with strength and getting stronger. He gets bored easily and has a tendency to investigate things he thinks seem interesting. He sometimes likes to hang around people simply to annoy them, especially if you piss him off. He can be very petty if he really dislikes you.
He hates being told what to do.

History:

Eri was born almost a century ago in a small city in the Kingdom of Ethus. His mother passed away when he was three years old, while his father, a Honchkrow, was a Knight. Because the man was often on duty to protect the city and help refugees from the war against Ormona, Eri was often on his own growing up. He would often play in the streets and cause mischief to get attention, especially from his father, but to little effect.

When he was seven years old, the Ormonan army reached the city he lived in. The siege lasted a few weeks before the Ormonans broke through the walls before daybreak and swooped into the cities too quickly for the city’s soldiers to react and the people to flee. Eri’s father tried to take his son to safety, but before they could even leave their home one of the Ormonan Knights got into their house and killed the Honchkrow in front of the boy’s eyes. When Eri tried to fight the man, he got beat down easily, but the Knight refused to kill a child. When the Bat got up again, the Knight knocked him out and left him in the house.

It was dark when the boy finally regained consciousness. Somehow the Ormonans had ignored him during the attack, probably thinking the boy was dead already. The Ormonans had remained in the city after their invasion, and Eri hid for two days until the Ormonan army finally moved on. Not knowing what to do now, he wandered through the ruined city and finally from it. After a few days he was found by a man, a Persian named Vincent Gray. The Bat was suspicious of the stranger and tried to keep him at a distance with a stick, to little avail. The Persian decided to take the boy in, impressed by the Bat’s spirit and not wanting to leave the boy on his own in the wild; He was a member of a group of raiders active in the area, and convinced their leader to let the boy stay with them. And so Eri came in Vincent’s care. Vincent taught him to take care of himself, how to fight, but also other skills such as reading and writing. Eri enjoyed his time with the Raiders.

He was 15 years old when he started joining the raiders on their raids, four years before the fall of Ethus. They mainly targeted Ormonan convoys and small, unprotected villages, nothing dangerous that could result in fights. But as hostilities between Ormona and Ethus were lessening with the latter’s imminent defeat, fights between the Raiders and groups of Soldiers and Knights occured more and more often. Although the Knights were never able to find the Raiders’ hideout in the caverns underneath the island, unrest and discontent grew within the group. The leader, Damian, wanted his men to avoid large fights as much as possible, but many of the Raiders thought they should strike back at the Knights. Eventually, a year after the fall of Ethus, when the Knights were beginning to put high pressure on the raiders, Damian’s leadership was taken over by a Weavile named Lucius, who had a strong grudge against the Knights (and questionable mental stability.).

Under Lucius the group was more violent, feared, and infamous. They got into fierce skirmishes with Knights and other warriors often. Eri didn’t mind the fighting with the Knights much, he enjoyed testing his fighting skills and with the other raiders’ back up there wasn’t too much danger. While larger groups of Knights kept being sent out to deal with the Raider problem, they were never able to find the hide-out and the Raiders could always escape if things got too bad.

One day, when the Golbat was 22 years old, Vincent called Eri away from the group after they returned from a raid. This wasn’t too strange, Vincent often gave the young man lessons or shared books for him to read. But that night, it was different. This time, Vincent asked the young man to leave the Raiders with him to start an honest life far from the group.

Eri was surprised by Vincent’s sudden offer, but before he could ask anything, a yell echoed from the main room. They had been found by Knights, who were now attacking the raiders, completely taken by surprise and unprepared for another fight after just returning. The Bat heard the Persian mumble something, but disregarded it as he turned to run over to help and fight. Vincent stopped him and urged him again to leave. He tried to take the Bat with him through a cavern, but was stopped when a smaller group of Knights appeared and blocked their way. The Persian let go of the Bat and stepped forward towards the Knights, opened his mouth to say something, but before the words could leave his mouth, the Knight’s leader stabbed the Persian through the chest, a grin across his face.

“We thank you for your services to Ormona, Sir Gray.”

The next moments were blurry. The Bat remembers the look on Vincent’s face he couldn’t quite place. Pain? Sadness? The Persian’s lips formed words, but no sounds left his mouth as he sank on his knees, tears in the man’s eyes. Tears in his own eyes. He remembers crying out in a mad rage as he grabbed his shortswords and attacked the Knights. Pushing through the pain of his body morphing under a forced evolution. His enemies’ blood covered his face and mixed with the tears. Two Knights lay dead and the Crobat turned to the leader for the next attack, jumped and slashed, gauging one of the man’s eyes, when he was pulled back, felt the blades digging into his back. Someone grabbed his wings and he tried to turn, unbearable pain, the sound of leather being thorn. He tried to turn, slam his wings against the attackers on his back, but they didn’t respond. His body grew heavy as the blood seeped out of his injuries, his vision started fading to black…

He doesn’t remember much of his time between his death and waking up again. His mind was chaotic, flashing in and out of darkness. The Ghost Bat kept trying to make sense of what had happened, to him, to Vincent, to the Raiders and their hideout. Had he died? But if so, how was he still here? How had the Knights found them? Had Vincent really betrayed the group..? It may have been days or years as his thoughts reassembled themselves and the Crobat could make some sense of himself. When his mind finally calmed down he tried to readjust to his new form. He had evolved and turned into a Ghost, and had to get used to both changes. In that time he also tried to think what to do. He had lost everything to the Knights. Everyone he knew. Everything he was.

The Crobat tried to decide what to do now, and decided to avenge his death, to hunt down and kill the Knights that had destroyed him. He started training himself to fight in his new form. He tried to get rid of what he once was and what he lost, to cut all ties with his past. He even refused the company of his Familiar Daedalus and ignored the Creature’s words whenever Dae tried to talk to him. The Crobat took on a new name. He became Erebos.

Eight years had passed since his death, when he finally left the caves. Finding his targets proved far easier said than done. He searched for the Knights and for any clues to their identities and whereabouts. Mostly out of sheer luck he managed to track down some of the men, but even killing some of the Knights he hunted didn’t make him any less restless.

He started challenging other Knights he came across, and soon after he picked fights with anyone he thought would be a challenging opponent. Fighting, but mostly proving his own strength and superiority helped him feel better, pushed back the memories and pain. Made him feel alive again. The fighting became almost as important to him as vengeance, if not more. And he found other ways to pass time as well, take his mind off things. He would explore the Islands or investigate interesting locations when he had nothing better to do. Anything to keep busy. Although he also had to be careful to keep a somewhat low profile with the Knights.

Although Daedalus had first given Erebos space, over time he grew tired of being ignored by his Gijinka and persisted to stay close to Erebos, talking to him even when he wouldn’t listen, helped out when Eri got in over his head, and slowly the Gijinka opened up to his Familiar again.

For several decades Eri and Daedalus traversed the Islands, challenging people and getting some infamy in spite of his efforts to keep a low profile, until one day the Crobat was careless and they were ambushed. Guards and Knights appeared suddenly, and although Eri fought back, aided by Daedalus, they were eventually overpowered and captured by the Knights. They brought him to their commander, an older man that was a familiar face nonetheless: The Knight that had led the assault on the Raiders all those years ago. The man that had once already killed Eri.

Oh, but what punishment would death be to a Ghost? No. Rather than sending the Crobat to the executioner’s block, the old Knight arranged for Erebos to be put in a cell in the Ormonan prison for ‘life’.

That was 25 years ago…

Extra:
* Eri has a sweettooth.
* He collects mementos from people he has fought. He lost most of his collection when he was caught, though.
* He absolutely /hates/ water. He also can’t swim.
* Erebos isn’t his real name. He almost /never/ gives his real name to others, and the chance of your character knowing his real name is /very/ small.
* Yes, he is short, he compensates by almost always standing on his toes if he doesn’t float a few centimeters above the ground.
* He has wings, but they aren’t attached to his body anymore and can appear and disappear at will. Although the wings help in flight and battle, Eri can float without them.
* His tails are whispy and seem to change in length.
* He still seems to have a strong hatred of shoes. And combs.
* His birthday is August 16.
* He emits a very mild glow. :new: With his mastering of the move Flash he can now adjust the intensity of the glow at will and use it in battle to temporarily blind opponents. Or to light up areas for other people (Eri himself can see in the dark pretty well and thus usually doesn't need this) but he is less likely to do that. He's not your lamp.
* Although he is a rogue and a criminal, he has rarely actually taken a life. Only people he holds a very, very strong grudge against (Like the Knights that killed him and the other raiders) are the exception to this rule.
* He managed to escape his prison following the turmoil in Ormona when Kain was dethroned as God of Knights.
* He fights using double blades, although he usually weilds only one and only uses both in serious fights. He isn't that strong physically, but he compensates using his inherent speed as a Crobat.
* With the switch to the new Renova, it seems Eri is dissatisfied with the disappearance of Ethus..

Familiar name: Daedalus
Familiar personality: Daedalus is quiet and distant. He rarely shows himself to other people, and when you do see him he will probably keep a constant glare on you. Despite his rather intimidating appearance and size, Daedalus is a sweetie when you get to know him better. He is fiercely protective over Eri and will try to attack if he feels his Master is in danger, but besides that he doesn’t fight often. Although he doesn’t completely approve of some of Eri’s deeds, he remains loyal to his Gijinka.
Daedalus enjoys sleeping in warm places.
Familiar Extra:
* He loves when people brush through his mane or scratch behind his ears.
* Don’t bully him and call him a Noivern it isn’t nice D:
